Campos is located on the south coast of Majorca, on a stretch of coast that extends from the place Sa Ràpita in the west to Ses Arenes behind the long sandy beach of Es Trenc in the southeast. The eponymous capital of the municipality is located about nine kilometers from the coast on the road connecting Palma. The distance from Campos to Palma is about 35 kilometers.
Campos has much of the charm of old Mallorca with its winding streets and traditional stone buildings. The earliest records of Campos date back to 1300, when the city was founded by King Jaume II. Within the city of Campos are many buildings of historical importance.
Today, Campos is experiencing a revival of the dairy industry with the restoration of many windmills in the irrigation zone.
The city of Campos covers all the needs of everyday life. The nearest major shopping cities are Lluchmayor, Palma City and Manacor, which are not easily accessible except by car.
You might want to enjoy a picnic with local products, including “Sobrasada” and “Piris”, which are known for their city. The weekly markets in Campos are on Thursday and Saturday.
Es Trenc stretches for three kilometers and apart from some Spanish beach bars, known as ‘Chiringuitos’, this wide sandy beach with crystal clear waters is largely intact. Many have compared the beauty of ‘es Trenc’ with the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. The beach is so big that you will most likely find your own patch if you do not mind walking. This beach also attracts naturist swimmers.
This area is ideal for hiking and cycling
Near the coast, this area is ideal for water sports and sailing, especially if you want to discover the hidden caves and coves in the south and east of the island. If you are interested in fresh, local produce, there is also a lot of “agro tourism” in this area and a number of prominent Majorcan vineyards.
The nearest golf courses are located near Llucmajor.
For those who are interested in history and ancient archeology, you are not far away to visit some of the earliest settlements on the island, including the famous Bronze Age “Capocorb Vell” on the road to Cala Pi, which may be the most important archeological site the island is. There are occasional art exhibitions in Campos, including a permanent exhibition at the Art Resort and Hotel Es Revellar.
Campos has an excellent selection of restaurants, many of which use fresh, seasonal, local produce. We like the fusion menu at the Moli de Vent restaurant as well as many of the excellent restaurants in the surrounding rural hotels.
You’ll be surprised to learn that Campos also has a world-class Japanese restaurant (Kairiku), along with the upscale Mediterranean Tess de Mar restaurant at the heart of the Sa Creu Nova Art Hotel & Spa.
At Ca’n Calent Restaurant you can enjoy a good Majorcan lunch or dinner with a modern touch. If you love art and gastronomy, visit the La Cocina del Huerto restaurant at Es Revellar Art Resort.
