The Municipal Police Department, it takes care of the simple matters of police work, its main task is to watch over the observance of the regulations and laws issued by the City Hall.

The duties of the Policía Local include:

• Traffic control within the cities
• Punishment of misdemeanors
• Enforcement of court orders (e.g. eviction or service)
• Prevention of criminal acts
• Mediation in disputes

If someone has parked in front of your driveway, opened a bar without a license, your neighbor has illegally remodeled or installed a loud air conditioner next to your window, your neighbors party through every night, or people riot in the park – call Policía Local.

Guardia Civil – Emergency number 062

A paramilitary police unit that performs both military and civilian functions. The Civil Guard reports to both the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Defense.

Policía Nacional (CPN) – Emergency number 091

The highest police authority in the country, it reports to the Spanish Ministry of the Interior. The police authority, created at the end of the 20th century, has its legal origins in the 1978 Constitution, in which the following are defined
assigned to it the two basic tasks of “protecting the free exercise of the rights of the citizen and ensuring urban security”.
Important powers of the Policía Nacional:
