The police system in Mallorca is complex and somewhat confusing: sometimes the officers wear green, sometimes blue, sometimes blue and white – depending on whether they are on duty for the Polic\u00eda Local, the Guardia Civil or the Polic\u00eda Nacional.<\/p>\n

As a rule of thumb for the jurisdiction of the various police bodies, if you have a minor problem – such as a towed car – you should contact the Polic\u00eda Local. If weapons or violence are involved, the Polic\u00eda Nacional is the better contact; for customs matters, the Guardia Civil.<\/p>\n

Those who need quick help can dial the general emergency number 112<\/strong>, all three police bodies are networked and cooperate with each other.<\/p>\n

The Municipal Police Department, it takes care of the simple matters of police work, its main task is to watch over the observance of the regulations and laws issued by the City Hall.<\/p>\n

The duties of the Polic\u00eda Local include:<\/p>\n

  • Guarding the public buildings of the municipality<\/li>\n
  • Traffic control within the cities<\/li>\n
  • Punishment of misdemeanors<\/li>\n
  • Enforcement of court orders (e.g. eviction or service)<\/li>\n
  • Prevention of criminal acts<\/li>\n
  • Mediation in disputes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    If someone has parked in front of your driveway, opened a bar without a license, your neighbor has illegally remodeled or installed a loud air conditioner next to your window, your neighbors party through every night, or people riot in the park – call Polic\u00eda Local.<\/p>\n

    • Fighting Drugs<\/li>\n
    • Border guard and customs functions and coast guard<\/li>\n
    • Prison security<\/li>\n
    • Control of arms trade and licenses<\/li>\n
    • Bomb disposal<\/li>\n
    • Police presence and control of places with less than 10,000 inhabitants and rural areas where there is no Polic\u00eda Local<\/li>\n
    • Counterterrorism<\/li>\n
    • Undercover investigations<\/li>\n
    • Counterintelligence<\/li>\n
    • Securing diplomatic facilities abroad<\/li>\n
    • Cyber and cybercrime prevention<\/li>\n
    • Enforcement of environmental regulations and prosecution of corresponding violations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Polic\u00eda Nacional (CPN) – Emergency number 091<\/h2>\n

      The highest police authority in the country, it reports to the Spanish Ministry of the Interior. The police authority, created at the end of the 20th century, has its legal origins in the 1978 Constitution, in which the following are defined
      \nassigned to it the two basic tasks of “protecting the free exercise of the rights of the citizen and ensuring urban security”.
      \nImportant powers of the Polic\u00eda Nacional:<\/p>\n

      • Issuance of passports and identity cards<\/li>\n
      • Border control, as well as the control of foreigners, immigrants, asylum seekers<\/li>\n
      • Supervision of gambling, lottery, casinos<\/li>\n
      • Drug trafficking prosecution<\/li>\n
      • Cooperation with foreign police<\/li>\n
      • Control of security guards (Vigilantes de seguridad)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
