\nIn 1229, King Jaime de Aragon made camp here after a murderous battle against the Moors. According to a legend, the name of the village comes from a statement of the king who, after a meal in his tent, said ‘Ben dinat’, which in Catalan means ‘well fed’.
\nBendinat Castle was built between 1855 and 1867. The 3rd Marquis de la Romana, Pedro Caro, had it built in the Central Transylvanian Gothic style. The 2,800-hectare estate has since had various owners, which include Count Montenegro. You can still see the castle from far away, however, it is still a private property, so it cannot be visited by tourists.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2\/3″]
